The
Public Safety Facility is the City of Santa Monica’s first major
facility designed and built with the intent of minimizing its lifecycle
impact on the natural environment while providing for the health and
comfort of the building’s occupants. As the headquarters for the Police
and Fire Departments in addition to the 9-1-1 center and other
facilities, the importance of maintaining the indoor environment
quality is imperative. In addition to providing a healthy and
comfortable place to work, the City demonstrated its commitment to the
environment by designing the facility to be extremely resource and
energy efficient. As a measure of its sustainability, the structure is
being designed to qualify for the US Green Building Council’s LEED
Silver rating.
